Joe Mayes II, DDS
Dr. Joe Mayes II, a native of West Texas, began is educational training at Texas Tech University while pursuing a degree in Cell & Molecular Biology. He then attended Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas where he achieved his Doctorate in Dental Surgery. During his dental training Dr. Mayes received numerous academic and clinical awards including the Dr. D. Lamar Byrd Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Academic Achievement Award from the Baylor Oral Surgery Alumni Assoc., the Outstanding Dental Student Award and the Dental Implant Student Award from the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Horace Wells Senior Student Award from the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, the Dr. William S. Kramer Award of Excellence from the OKU National Honor Society, and the Best Hand Skills Award as voted by the Baylor College of Dentistry Class of 2009.
Dr. Mayes then moved to New Orleans where he completed an internship in General Surgery at Louisiana State University Medical Center before completing his residency training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Louisiana State University Health Science Center and School of Dentistry. While at LSU, Dr. Mayes was fortunate enough to be trained using state-of-the-art technology to learn the latest techniques in all of the many facets of his specialty. He then hurried back home to Texas to begin practicing oral surgery in the DFW area.
Dr. Mayes has participated in research on various aspects of his specialty, many of which have been accepted for publication in peer-reviewed national and international journals. He continues to attend national meetings and lectures to keep up to date with the most current evidence-based treatment options, advancements in technology, and overall dental health information. While Dr. Mayes is trained to practice every aspect of oral surgery, his primary emphasis is on dental implantology, bone grafting and pre-prosthetic surgery, complicated dental extractions, and outpatient anesthesia/sedation.
Dr. Mayes is a former ski instructor, spent time as a graphic designer, and is a proud veteran who served as a medic in the US Army. During his time on active military duty he was able to achieve the prestigious Expert Field Medical Badge as well as being honored with an Army Commendation Medal. Dr. Mayes is married to Kemi, his wife of 17 years, they have one child and live in North Dallas. In addition to spending time with his family Dr. Mayes enjoys golf, hunting, and snow skiing.
